Sofa Cleaning in Amelkis, Marrakech
On the estate, the reception lounge is rarely stained. It is loaded with fine sand, packed down at the base of the foam, and the housekeeper's vacuum only ever lifts the top layer.
In short
EPUREVA cleans L- and U-shaped sofas at home in the villas of the Amelkis estate, in Marrakech, by hot-water extraction, without taking the furniture out of the house. Here, the dominant soiling is not a stain but mineral sand built up in foam that is almost never disturbed. An L-shaped sofa is charged at 550 MAD incl. VAT in the small size and 600 MAD in the large, a U-shaped sofa at 650 MAD or 750 MAD, with a 400 MAD textile minimum. These prices are indicative and confirmed after photos or a visit.
A reception lounge open a few weeks a year
An Amelkis villa almost always has two sitting rooms. The everyday one, near the kitchen, and the grand reception lounge used for entertaining, family celebrations and the periods when the owners are in residence. It is the second that causes trouble, and it causes exactly the opposite trouble to the one people expect.
A heavily used textile becomes soiled by contact: sebum on the arms, dye transfer, localised food stains. A rarely used textile becomes soiled by sedimentation. No one sits on it, so nothing resurfaces, so nothing is visible — and the mineral load quietly works its way down through the fibre and into the foam over months.
The tell-tale sign: pat the backrest with a hand, and a cloud drifts towards the light of the picture window. The owner who arrives finds a lounge that looks spotless and a room that smells musty within the hour. Both are symptoms of the same cause, and neither is fixed with a cloth.
Sand does not sit on the fabric, it sinks into it
Amelkis is an open, flat environment, with bare plots between the houses and wind that nothing stops. The dust that comes in through an open sliding door is not household dust: it is mineral sand, abrasive, heavier than the skin flakes and textile fibres it mixes with. It passes through the surface weave and settles beneath it.
In practice, the job does not start with the machine but with two mechanical passes: brushing to lift what is anchored in the weave, then deep vacuuming before any water is applied. Skipping this step on an Amelkis salon turns dry sand into fine mud inside the foam — the one reliable way to leave a sofa dirtier than it started.
Hot-water extraction proper follows, with a contained water volume since there is no grease to dissolve, then dry passes to remove residual moisture.
The estate's reception lounges are often covered in velvet, wool or a silk whose make-up no one remembers: on these delicate fabrics, the method is confirmed from photos before the visit. The principle is set out on the mechanics of hot-water extraction, and sofa formats and their limits explains what the covering fabric changes.
The gatekeeper opens the door, the owner decides remotely
On a good number of the estate's villas, the person who receives us is not the person who pays. The owner is away, an estate manager or gatekeeper holds the keys, and the decision is made by message. This set-up changes three things in how we work the textiles here.
Counting is done from photos. We ask for an overall view of each sitting room and a view of one corner, which are enough to tell whether the sofa is L- or U-shaped, small or large, plus the length and width of each rug.
The format and the square metres set the price; there is no surprise on arrival. A Moroccan salon bench or a straight sofa is not on our price list: its photos, sent on WhatsApp, let us answer you before anyone travels.
Access is declared in advance. The estate's gatehouse wants the company name, the vehicle registration, the number of operatives and the time slot. That is the villa's business, not ours, but we supply these details 48 hours beforehand so the estate manager can pass them on. Being turned away at the gate loses half a day on both sides, plus a 12-kilometre round trip.
Everything travels in one load. Machine, accessories, extension leads, floor protection: nothing is bought locally on the way. The villa provides water and electricity — without them we cannot work, and it is the first thing to check with the gatekeeper. The rest of what we do in the area is described on our page for the Amelkis estate.
What a textile left closed up never recovers
Three frequent situations here are not solved by cleaning alone, and we say so before travelling rather than afterwards.
Sun fading. A seat facing a large south-facing window loses its colour unevenly, faster on linens and yarn-dyed fabrics. The fibre is not dirty, it is bleached: there is nothing to extract, and the gap between the exposed area and the sheltered area stays visible after treatment.
A smell coming from the frame, not the fabric. Foam degraded by years of dry heat, or timber that has warped, produces a smell extraction does not remove. We identify it on site and say so, rather than sell a deodorising treatment that lasts three days.
Mould in a room kept shut. Black specks under a cushion, a mouldy rather than musty smell: that needs a diagnosis first, and cleaning alone may not be enough.
On everything else — sand, deep dust, a musty smell coming from the foam — the result is visible in the machine's recovery tank, and the free re-do guarantee applies. Some stains, discolouration or smells may still remain: no 100% result is guaranteed, and a stain you point out triggers no automatic surcharge.
An example for a reception lounge: a large U-shaped sofa at 750 MAD and a 3 × 4 m rug, that is 12 m² × 30 MAD = 360 MAD, come to 1,110 MAD incl. VAT, well above the textile minimum.
The grid below is indicative; the price is confirmed after a visit or from the photos and measurements sent by the estate manager, and no surcharge is committed without your approval. For a whole estate, all textiles treated at home across Marrakech gives the full picture, and our sofa cleaning page sets out the formats we price.

Frequently asked questions
Our Amelkis villa is closed for part of the year — should the lounge be cleaned before or after we arrive?
Before, without hesitation. A lounge left closed for several months has built up fine sand in the foam, and drying takes half a day to a full day, sometimes longer, during which the sofa must be neither used nor covered.
By stepping in a few days before your arrival, the room is ventilated, the furniture is dry and back in place, and you walk into a villa that does not smell musty.
The reception lounge has no visible stains, only dust. Is a full clean justified?
Yes, and this is actually the case where the before-and-after gap is most striking. A textile with no visible mark can hold a significant load of mineral sand and skin flakes that have sunk into the foam. Household vacuuming only removes the surface layer. The proof is in the machine's recovery tank, which you or your housekeeper can watch during the job.
Can your estate manager receive you without the owners present on the estate?
Yes, provided the quotation has been approved in writing before the job and the gatekeeper can open the rooms concerned, with water and electricity available. We identify each sofa's format and measure the rugs from photos before we travel, which removes any decision to be made on site. A photo record is sent at the end of the job, with the list of rooms treated and any reservations noted.
Does the estate gatehouse need to be told before a soft-furnishings job?
Yes. The gatehouse asks for the company name, the vehicle registration, the number of operatives and the time slot. We supply these details 48 hours in advance so the villa can register them. Without this step, the team can be held at the gate, and a round trip from Gueliz means roughly an hour of lost driving time.
