Sofa Cleaning in Sidi Ghanem, Marrakech

In a showroom, a sofa is not a piece of furniture in use: it is a product for sale. It is not dirty, it is handled — and it has to leave for a client's home with no trace of testing.

In short

In Sidi Ghanem, in Marrakech, EPUREVA restores display furniture in interior-design showrooms on site, without dismantling and without taking it out of the building: seats tested by visitors, workshop dust, pieces brought back after prolonged storage. An L-shaped sofa is charged at 550 MAD incl. VAT in the small format and 600 MAD in the large, a U-shaped sofa at 650 or 750 MAD, a rug at 30 MAD per m², with a 400 MAD textile minimum per visit.

Display furniture wears out without being used

A showroom sofa does not go through what a living-room sofa goes through. No one eats on it, no one sleeps on it, there is no pet and no child. And yet, within a few months, it no longer sells at the marked price.

What damages it is a combination specific to the setting:

  • Testing. Dozens of visitors sit down fully dressed, bag on the seat, hand on the arm rest. The front edge of the seat develops a sheen, the arm rests pick up sebum, and denim transfers its dye onto pale fabrics — the leading cause of mark-down on an ecru sofa.
  • Workshop dust. Sidi Ghanem is an industrial zone: wood, plaster, textile, sanding. This dust is fine, dry and abrasive, and it settles continuously on the horizontal surfaces of an open showroom floor.
  • Light. Under a skylight or a glazed roof, a piece displayed in the same spot for months lightens on one side.
  • Storage. A piece brought out of the stockroom after several months comes back with a musty smell and fold marks on the cover.

Testing and dust can be treated. Storage can be treated in part. Light cannot.

Cleaning a product for sale without dismantling it

This is the constraint that sets this job radically apart from a domestic clean: the furniture has to stay intact and sellable. No cover is removed, no seam is opened, no zip is forced. A cover removed from a display model never goes back exactly as the upholsterer fitted it, and the difference shows on a piece in the showroom.

The work is therefore done in place, panel by panel, with reduced water and short cross passes. Sheened zones — front edge of the seat, arm rests — receive a grooming pass after extraction, without which they stay darker than the rest of the panel once dry.

Labels, piping, decorative stitching and the metallic threads of traditionally inspired pieces are treated separately, by hand, without a machine. Velvet, wool, silk or an unidentified covering: the method is confirmed from photos before the date, and a test on a hidden area precedes any treatment — on furniture destined for sale, we do not test on a visible face.

Limits by material, notably leather and faux leather, which are not treated by hot-water extraction, are detailed on our page by covering type.

Residual moisture decides when a piece goes back on display

On a sales floor, a damp piece is not just unusable: it is unsellable, and it is visible to everyone who walks in.

There are two reasons not to put a seat back on display too soon. First, foam still loaded with water catches airborne workshop dust and resoils within a day. Second, a piece put back under a glazed roof with residual moisture can develop a smell within days, in a space where air moves little overnight.

We therefore work in batches: one set of pieces is taken off the sales floor, treated and dried away from it, then put back once checked, while the next batch is treated. The check is done by touch, with the flat of the hand pushed onto the seat and underneath, not by surface appearance.

Drying takes half a day to a full day, sometimes longer depending on the fabric, the thickness and the airflow. Until it is complete, the piece is neither used nor covered: no dust sheet, no styling throw, no price tag laid flat on the seat.

The exact time it goes back on display is set according to the method chosen, once we have seen the floor: ceiling height, volume and air circulation all count, and a showroom under a shed roof does not behave like a closed office. We schedule the job outside opening hours — the area's access constraints are described on our Sidi Ghanem page.

Sun-faded fabric, the limit a manager should know before paying

A piece left for several months under a skylight has lost colour on the exposed side. This is not soiling, it is fading: the fibre itself has changed, there is nothing to extract, and cleaning makes the gap more visible by removing the film of dust that had softened it. No treatment recovers that.

Same verdict on a solvent mark, a burn, an old dye transfer deeply set, or a cover deformed by folded storage. We flag these piece by piece before the quotation, stating explicitly what will be recovered and what will not, so the choice between cleaning and marking down is made with full knowledge. Some stains, discolouration or smells may remain: no 100% result is guaranteed.

Everything else — workshop dust, testing sheen, arm-rest sebum, storage smell — is treated, with no automatic surcharge for the stains you report, and the free re-do guarantee applies.

Counting is done from the list of pieces sent in advance, with photos: each L-shaped or U-shaped sofa by its format, small or large, and rugs by the m². Armchairs, straight sofas, benches and Moroccan sets have no price in our list: they are priced from photos, via WhatsApp.

A sample floor: two large L-shaped sofas (2 × 600 MAD), one small U-shaped sofa (650 MAD) and a 2 × 4 m rug (8 m² × 30 MAD, i.e. 240 MAD) come to 2,090 MAD incl. VAT, well above the 400 MAD textile minimum.

These amounts are indicative and are confirmed after photos or a visit; no extra is committed without your agreement, and water and electricity must be available on the floor. Frequently asked questions

Do you remove the covers to clean a showroom sofa?

No, never on furniture destined for sale. A removed cover never goes back exactly as the upholsterer fitted it, and the difference shows on a piece in the showroom. Treatment is done in place, panel by panel, with reduced water. Piping, decorative stitching and metallic threads are done by hand, without a machine.

Can a piece brought out of storage after several months go back on sale?

Most often, yes. A musty smell comes from air held in the foam and is treated by sanitising followed by extraction. Fold marks on a cover stored compressed, and fading on a piece exposed to light, cannot be recovered: we flag them before the quotation so the choice between putting it back on sale and marking it down is made with full knowledge.

How long is a seat off the sales floor?

As long as it takes to dry: half a day to a full day, sometimes longer depending on the fabric, the thickness and the airflow on the floor.

We work in batches, taken off the display area, dried away from it and put back once checked, while the next batch is treated. The check is done by hand pressure, not by surface appearance, and nothing covers the seat before it is completely dry.

Denim leaves blue marks on our ecru sofas — is that recoverable?

Often yes, if the transfer is recent and has not been fixed by heat or a household product, and a mark you report does not trigger an automatic surcharge. Treatment covers the whole panel, not just the marked zone, to avoid a colour difference once dry. An old, deeply fixed transfer, though, has changed the fibre: we flag it as unrecoverable before the job, not after.
